COMMUNIQUE DE PRESSE SPORTELMonaco 19th International Symposium « SPORT AND TELEVISION : FROM SCREENS TO ATHLETES »
With its many sports and events, bringing together the very greatest champions, the Olympic Games are the beacon of world sporting competition. The one success that will stamp a career is the common quest shared by all those who compete. But the achievements are not limited solely to the stadiums. Engineers, broadcasters, industry leaders and businessmen also seek success at the sharp end of technology. Their ambition: provide a larger and always more passionate public with the opportunity to share the magic experience of sport. Among the participants: Hein Verbruggen, President of the Coordination Commission of Beijing 2008, Wang Wei, Executive Vice-President of BOCOG, Lord Sebastian Coe KBE, Président of London 2012, Denis Oswald, President of the Commission de Coordination de London 2012, Stéphane Diagana, World Champion, President of the Ligue Nationale d'Athlétisme, David Douillet, Olympic Champion, Direction of Sports, Canal+, Ben Gallop, Head of BBC Sport Interactive, Hicham El Guerrouj, Olympic Champion, IOC Member, Denis Masseglia, Commission media-marketing CNOSF President, David Miller, Journalist, Jean Réveillon, General Director EBU. Monday 20 October 2008 at 4.15 pm : «THE DIGITAL REVOLUTION : TOWARDS MORE RIGHTS SEGMENTATION AND THE PROLIFERATION OF FORMATS » To offer all the pictures of sport on any screen, for all the public, anywhere and at any time is the digital revolution's promise that transforms the media world under our very eyes. The conventional system of broadcasting sport for the mass on generalist TV channels has progressed for many moons with the emergence of pay TV on cable or satellite. Broadband, mobile personal TV and Web 2.0 transform the situation once more. Yet again the rights owners, the marketing agencies, the operators will have to adjust sporting events' business models. The segmentation of rights and the development of formats will increasingly turn out to be the daily reality. What new trends will be showing up? Which sports will be pioneers in this development? Are changes about to occur in the usual distribution of roles between the various players on the scene? Tuesday 21 October 2008 at 10:30 am : « OLYMPIC GAMES AND TELEVISION : FROM BEIJING TO LONDON » Barely two months after the closing ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, and with memories still fresh of the images of sporting greatness, the thrilling successes and achievements, this debate focuses on the experiences of Olympic Beijing and looks ahead to the prospects for Olympic London in 2012. Major broadcasters, sports federation leaders, and medal winning athletes will gather for this reflection and analysis of the world's greatest sporting event. With the video participation of President Jacques Rogge, it will be led by the two heads of the IOC co-ordinating commissions for Beijing and London, and senior figures from the two organising committees, BOCOG and LOCOG. The Games - its events and its schedules - are more widely viewed than ever before, and under more scrutiny than ever before. The rapidly developing new media world of the 21st century offers more opportunities for the coverage and reporting of the Games. Alongside the traditional programming of the TV networks, the Internet and the mobile telephone are giving sports fans the chance for more individual choices of the events they watch.
